Common Insurance Conundrums & FAQ
Believe us when we say, we know how infuriating it can be to deal with insurance agencies and representatives. Here are some common issues and how to navigate them.
They ask for CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) codes: The CPT codes we use when billing insurance for massage therapy are 97124 or 97140. Ask about both and let us know if you are covered for one, but not the other!

They ask where this service is taking place: We are considered an office, providing outpatient services by licensed massage therapists.

They tell you that you have 100 massage visits per year, but we tell you that you only have 6: You might have a maximum number of visits covered per year, but insurance agencies often require massage therapists to submit authorizations after your 6th visit. It is then determined by the insurance agency whether not they will cover additional visits. They base this decision on what treatment(s) they determine to be medically necessary for your care and wellbeing. Even when they approve additional treatment, it is usually only an additional visit or two.

Your agency tells you that you don't need a referral, but we do: In order to bill your medical massage through insurance, our massage therapists need something called a diagnosis code. These codes can only be assigned by doctors. Because of this, all of our massage therapists require referrals for insurance massages.
